LA born, but an Oakland resident by the age of 14, Too Short is considered by many to be the first West Coast rap star. Though he recorded three albums on his own, his big break came with his major-label debut Born to Mack, which went gold. He surpassed that with 1988’s Life is…Too Short—which went double Platinum. He continued massive success through the 90s with five more platinum albums until his “retirement” in 1996. He returned to the business three years later with the aptly titled Can't Stay Away, which featured 8Ball & MJG, Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri, Sean Combs, E-40, Daz Dillinger, Lil' Jon, Soopafly, Scarface and B-Legit. The album debuted in the top 10 and went gold. A series of follow-ups surfaced, and in 2006 his high-profile album Blow the Whistle arrived with producers Jazze Pha and Lil Jon contributing.
"I’m a Monster fan since way back when. You gotta have the best, I’ll be continuing to use Monster products for a long time. It’s the best! Everybody knows that."
