Important Monster® Performance and Safety Tips
    Listen Responsibly

To avoid hearing damage, make sure that the volume on your music player is turned down before connecting your headphones. After placing headphones in your ears, gradually turn up the volume until you reach a comfortable listening level.

Noise levels are measured in decibels (dB), exposure to any noise at or above 85 dB can cause gradual hearing loss.

Monitor your use; hearing loss is a function of loudness versus time. The louder it is, the less time you can be exposed to it. The softer it is, the more time you can listen to it. Refer to the chart* below.

This decibel (dB) table compares some common sounds and shows how they rank in potential harm to hearing.
    SoundNoise Level (dB)Effect
    Whisper30Very quiet
Quiet Office50-60Comfortable hearing levels are under 60 dB
Vacuum Cleaner, Hair Dryer70Intrusive; interferes with telephone conversations
Food Blender85-9085 dB is the level at which hearing damage (8 hrs.) begins
Garbage Truck, Cement Mixer100No more than 15 minutes of unprotected exposure recommended for sounds between 90-100 dB
Power Saw, Drill/Jackhammer110Regular exposure to sound over 100 dB of more than 1 minute risks permanent hearing loss
Rock Concerts (varies)110-140Threshold of pain begins around 125dB
"....a typical person can safely listen to an iPod for 4.6 hours per day at 70% volume."
"....knowing the levels one is listening to music at, and for how long is extremely important."

    Use Responsibly

Do not use headphones when it's unsafe to do so - while operating a vehicle, crossing streets, or during any activity or in an environment where your full attention to your surroundings is required.

It's dangerous to drive while wearing headphones, and in many places, illegal because it decreases your chances of hearing life-saving sounds outside of your vehicle, such as another car's horn and emergency vehicle sirens.

Please avoid wearing your headphones while driving. Use one of Monster's FM transmitters to listen to your mobile media devices instead.

Comments about Monster® iSport Strive In-Ear Headphones - Multilingual:

I use this product 98% for cycling. Finally found a set of ear buds appropriate for the ambient sound needs for cyclists. Although not perfect, they work as intended. Take the time to find the set of formed ear plugs that fit you and you are set. The design of the plugs is decently comfortable. On some rides they may tend to slip out every 20min or so but not that much of problem. Despite, occasionally having to push them back on the ear, they are comfortable and sometimes forget they are there. The design of the earplugs don't interfere with cycling glasses or helmet straps. These are "partial" sound canceling, and semi in/on the ear, so adjust your expectation level for bass output and and wind noise. In high cross winds the noise does leak through a bit. I think if the designers pay a little more attention to aerodynamics or maybe more variable/active/progressive sound isolation technology on subsequent prototypes they could decease this issue. Otherwise, these units work as intended and effectively deliver fairly clean and consistent sound. Prius' and other Ecars can sneak up on you sometimes (they can do that even without music earphones) but for the most part enough ambient sound is allowed to maintain safe situational awareness. There is just enough sound isolation to enjoy your tunes, but enough ambient noise to detect a bit of drive train noise on even the quietest well lubricated component sets. You can have a halfway descent phone conversation up to16-18 mph. Over that speed it gets sketchy. The partial isolation allows conversation with those around you up to at reasonable volume levels. The cord is just long enough to tuck though the neck opening of the jersey and out the bottom hem to connect to your iPod resting in one of the back pockets. However, it could be a couple inches longer as when you pull the device from the rear pocket it tends to become tethered. Have not had them longer than 3months so can't speak on long term durability or reliability but they are sturdily constructed. Overall a great value and have transformed my riding enjoyment. I don't ride without them. A valuable piece of kit.

Comments about Monster® iSport Strive In-Ear Headphones - Multilingual:

The quality of the headphones appear to be really high. But the different size earbuds varies too much. The medium is too big - hurts my ears. The small is too small and falls out.

The sound quality is among the better I've used for excercise purposes.

The play/pause button does not work with my ipod touch (can't find the reason). Good sound for the price but not high end.

Feels awkward at first in ears but I got used to it and find them pretty confortable after 2 days. Great for jogging: great sound but you're aware of what's going on around you. Haven't tried in a noisy environment (I live in suburbs).
